Revolutionizing the Gift Bag
Do They Remember You When They Leave?

Aside from the heavy paychecks, the glamorous life and all that jazz, celebrities are almost always entitled to some swag during parties and award shows.  Since parting party gifts are such a large part of the media showcase of these days, the opportunity to contribute to a gift bag encourages companies to step up in a big way.  Companies have begun to revolutionize the gift bag into a “wow-factor” marketing strategy that will keep the customers coming back.

How will the gift bag recipient remember you when they leave?”  That’s always the question of the hour after the big event.

The same can be said for Boca Raton’s Cucina D’Angelo and their latest “Yappy-Hour Goes Hollywood” event, a fun social for canine companions and their parents benefiting Rescue Rehab Home 501(c)3. With the complete celebrity treatment, PUParrazzi, velvet rope and a live DOGumentary, guests walked away with more than enough swag to keep that event in their minds for weeks.

Gifts included Sexy Beast “Canine Style Unleashed” doggy perfume, special advance screening movie tickets for two to Year of the Dog starring Molly Shannon, “Hollywood” Doggy Gift Bowls, an exclusive bottle of Bark Vineyards Doggy Wine, Pet Society Coffee Table Books, and the list goes on and on.

“What I have always believed in my years of attending many events is to give a gift that your guest will not just throw away or slide into a drawer,” says Chef Angelo of Cucina D’Angelo, whose dog-friendly areas in the outdoor sections of his restaurant hosted the Yappy-Hour event.  “I see the gift bowls as a way to bring familiarity of my company to my guests,” he continues.

Julie Amoroso who contributed the Sexy Beast “Canine Style Unleashed” doggy perfume agrees, “Being so new in the business, we found that contributing to gift bags was an affordable and effective way to increase the value of our brand marketing and awareness.”

Among many strategies that gift bag organizers are taking on behalf of companies that contribute products, is to reach out to brands that are most specifically beneficial to the attendee. “As a luxury brand which created the new genre “pet beauty”, Sexy Beast aligns themselves with companies and events that reach the affluent dog owner, our customer,” continues Amoroso.

Handing out freebies at awards shows and other events in hopes that the products will be photographed or mentioned in the media is a booming business. Many companies have grasped onto that idea not just for celebrity filled events but for events in general. And now businesses that donate to gift bags are trying to ensure that their products end up in the hands of the right people.

Enza Cooper of Totally Bare Wax Center distinctly remembers the Yappy-Hour event because of the gift bags. “Presentation is definitely everything with gift bags.” She says. “Every time that I feed my pup the Bark Vineyard Doggy Wine it makes me remember the event.”

In the media craze of the Oscars, Grammy’s, and other awards shows’ “wow-factor” gift bags, marketers have cracked the code that gift bags will never go out of style, because giving presents will never go out of style. Gift bags help give the recipient an extra incentive to interact with the brand.
